On January 8th the LAARA/K8GQB participated in the Ohio VHF Simplex Contest. We operated for 6 hours on 70cm, 2m & 6m. Made 103 QSO’s within 18 different counties. With the final score of 8,946 we were able to come in TOP fixed location, only coming in slightly behind the Top over all score and Rover at 10,321.
Ohio ARES is coordinating their annual VHF simplex contest on January 11, 2020 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. The goal of this activity is to test coverage using simplex frequencies and improve station and antenna capabilities. In case of emergency or power outages when repeaters may have failed, these are things you should know.
LAARA plans to participate in this contest. We will be operating from a location with a tower that has separate antennas for UHF, VHF, and 6m. The tower is at a great elevation, so hopefully we can really reach out and touch someone!
